MARILYN MONROE - Lot 198
MARILYN MONROE "Marilyn For Ever," exhibition at FNAC—Paris, 1987. Photo by Eve Arnold, later print (1980s) on RC paper in its original flap envelope—in mat form (sent to the press)—captioned on the back of the print (label with the photographer’s name) on the back. 21.5 x 14.8 cm, including white margins. Note: This photograph by Eve Arnold is associated with the *Marilyn For Ever* exhibition held at the FNAC in Paris in 1987. A legendary figure in American cinema, Marilyn Monroe remains one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century, whose image continues to fascinate far beyond the world of film. Eve Arnold, a member of the prestigious Magnum Photos agency, was one of the photographers closest to the actress and took some of the most famous and sensitive portraits of her career. Thanks to their relationship of trust, she was able to capture a more intimate and authentic Marilyn Monroe, far removed from the mere image of a Hollywood star. Distributed to the press in its original mat frame for this Paris exhibition, this print offers a fascinating insight into the creation and enduring legacy of the Monroe myth, as well as into Eve Arnold’s major body of photographic work.
