CATHERINE DENEUVE - Lot 207
CATHERINE DENEUVE During the filming of Marc Allégret’s (completed by Roger Vadim) sketch film *Les Parisiennes*, 1961. Photograph, vintage silver print, annotated on the back. 18 x 24.4 cm. Note: This photograph, taken in 1961, shows Catherine Deneuve during the filming of *Les Parisiennes*, an anthology film initiated by Marc Allégret and completed by Roger Vadim. Bringing together several stories focused on modern women, this production is part of the context of early 1960s French cinema, a period marked by the emergence of new female figures on screen. Catherine Deneuve, then at the beginning of her career, had not yet achieved the international fame that *The Umbrellas of Cherbourg*, *Belle de Jour*, or *Peau d’Âne*. This photograph thus offers an interesting glimpse into the early days of an actress who would go on to become one of the most iconic figures in French cinema. A vintage print, it also evokes the world of Parisian filmmaking at the dawn of a decade that would see Catherine Deneuve establish herself permanently as an icon of the silver screen.
