DOLL… - Lot 208
DOLL… Instant I and Instant II, 1988. 2 photographs by Françoise (?), silver gelatin prints (limited and numbered) on vintage card stock, signed by the photographer in a corner of each image + titled on each lower white border (visible only when held up to the light) and on the backs + titled and numbered 3/15 and 3/10. 50.6 x 40.4 cm each, including white borders. Mounted on mat boards. Note: This set of two photographs titled *Instant I* and *Instant II*, created in 1988, is part of an artistic practice centered on the representation of the doll, a recurring theme in late 20th-century contemporary photography. As a childhood object, a symbolic double, and an ambiguous figure, the doll is often used by artists to explore notions of identity, memory, projection, and the staging of the body. Printed in a limited and numbered edition, these prints bear the photographer’s signature as well as their titles, attesting to their status as original works intended for limited distribution. Through their meticulously curated nature and conceptual dimension, they bear witness to the photographic research conducted in the 1980s around the object, representation, and the constructed image. This collection thus constitutes an interesting testament to the artistic photography of that period.
