LE MIROIR DU MONDE - Lot 254
LE MIROIR DU MONDE Advertising photomontage for this weekly magazine, 1930s. Photograph, vintage silver print, unmarked on the reverse. 28 x 22 cm. Some signs of handling on the edges. Note: This photograph from the 1930s is an advertising photomontage created for *Le Miroir du Monde*, an illustrated weekly that was among the leading news and current affairs magazines of the interwar period. At that time, the illustrated press was experiencing considerable growth and made extensive use of photomontage techniques to attract readers’ attention and modernize its visual communication. Inherited from the artistic avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, this technique allowed for the combination of photographs, typography, and graphic elements in dynamic compositions particularly well-suited to advertising and publishing. This document thus illustrates the evolution of communication strategies in major French periodicals and the growing importance of the image in the media culture of the 1930s. As a period print, it offers a fascinating insight into the history of the illustrated press and advertising design.
