RAYMOND GEORGIEN - Lot 259
RAYMOND GEORGIEN Works by the collage artist, 1960. 5 photographs by Michel Martin, original silver gelatin prints, photographer’s stamps on the backs. 13 x 18 cm each, including white borders. Note: This set of five photographs taken in 1960 by Michel Martin documents several works by Raymond Georgien, a collage artist active within the context of postwar artistic experimentation. At that time, collage played a significant role in the experimentation of modern and contemporary art, building on the innovations pioneered by the Cubists, Dadaists, and Surrealists. Through the assembly of images, printed paper, and photographic or typographic fragments, this technique allows for the creation of new visual associations and the renewal of modes of representation. These photographs by Michel Martin document the dissemination and photographic recording of works of art at a time when photography played an essential role in promoting artists and exhibitions. As period prints, they offer an interesting insight into Raymond Georgien’s work and into artistic practices based on collage in the 1960s. Note:
