GEORGES PEREC - Lot 297
GEORGES PEREC Portrait, 1978. Photograph by Anne de Brunhoff, silver gelatin print on vintage card stock, stamped by the photographer and annotated on the back. 25 x 20 cm, including white margins. Note: This photograph, taken in 1978 by Anne de Brunhoff, depicts Georges Perec, one of the most original and influential figures in 20th-century French literature. A novelist, essayist, and member of Oulipo (Ouvroir de littérature potentielle), Perec distinguished himself through a body of work rooted in formal experimentation, wordplay, and profound reflections on memory, identity, and everyday life. Among his most famous works are *Les Choses* (1965), *La Disparition* (1969), a novel written without the letter “e,” and *La Vie mode d’emploi* (1978), considered his masterpiece and awarded the Prix Médicis. Taken the very year this last work was published, this portrait captures a pivotal moment in the writer’s career. A photograph by portrait photographer Anne de Brunhoff, printed on vintage card stock and documented on the reverse, it serves as a valuable tribute to one of the most innovative writers in contemporary literature.
