HORSE RACING CALENDAR - Lot 48

HORSE RACING CALENDAR An exceptional set of 38 vintage calfskin-bound volumes, covering the years 1776 through 1869 (only the year 1848 is missing) The first two volumes (1776–1833 and 1834–1835) are duplicates, as are the 1841–1842 and 1843 volumes, whose bindings are signed by René Simier (1772–1843), one of the leading French bookbinders of the 19th century (bookbinder to the king during the Restoration and later under the July Monarchy for King Louis-Philippe) Four other volumes also feature bindings signed by R. Simier or his workshop. Three copies of this incredible collection each contain one engraving dating from 1836. We are including the first two volumes, newly bound (1776–1833 & 1834–1835), with ex-libris attributed to a certain Monsieur Neustrian, “a member of the Society for the Encouragement of the Improvement of Horse Breeds in France and of several learned societies.” (40 volumes in all)
