MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION - Lot 165
MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION Strength, Anxiety, Galerie d'Orsay (the Robert & Carrière Pharmaceutical Laboratory competition is credited on one poster) — Paris, 1957 and 1958. 2 vintage posters (heliogravure), illustrated with photographs by Pierre Jahan, printed by Mourlot - Paris (credited on one). 61 x 40.8 cm & 62.5 x 42 cm. Some edges show signs of handling; one in particular has old water stains. Note: These two posters announcing the Salon de la Photographie Médicale held at the Galerie d’Orsay in 1957 and 1958 reflect a period when scientific and medical photography sought to assert its artistic dimension as much as its documentary one. Illustrated by Pierre Jahan, a leading figure in postwar French photography, they explore universal themes such as strength and anguish, straddling the boundary between medical research, visual expression, and reflection on the human condition. Printed using heliogravure—one of them by the Mourlot workshops in Paris—these posters are remarkable examples of the dialogue between photography, science, and graphic design in 1950s France.
