GENESIS - Lot 166
GENESIS "In the Beginning There Was Nothing…," the title chosen by the Arenthon Gallery in Paris for this themed exhibition, which brings together seven works corresponding to each stage (six days) of Creation and a seventh (the Day of Rest): the First Day with Man Ray & T. Tsara (“Champs délicieux,” 1922), followed by J. Dubuffet & A. Martel (“Le Mirivis des naturgies,” 1963), M. Ernst & H. Arp (“Histoire naturelle,” 1926), M. Ernst & G. Tempel (“Maximiliana ou…,” 1964), M. Ernst & R. Crevel (“Mr. Knife and Miss Fork,” 1931), P. Picasso & R. Char (“L’Escalier de Flore,” 1958), and finally, for *The Seventh Day*, Max Ernst (“A Week of Kindness, or…,” 1934), 2002. Period catalog in the form of a folder with flaps, containing seven double-panel sheets (biblical texts and illustrations/descriptions) for each featured work; folder housed in an original titled slipcase. 28.5 x 23 cm. The slipcase shows signs of handling, but this has not affected the folder or its contents, which are in perfect condition. Note: Linked to a key figure in Dada and Surrealism, this lot offers concrete insight into the exhibition scene, artists, and galleries of his time. A prime piece to enrich a collection dedicated to 20th-century art and documents.
