Note: Taken during the shooting of Julien Duvivier's La Bandera in 1935, this set photograph offers a rare behind-the-scenes account of French cinema in the 1930s. The scene shows a moment of make-up and preparation around a legionnaire, revealing the behind-the-scenes of a film that has become emblematic of French poetic realism.
