RAYMOND QUENEAU - Lot 122
RAYMOND QUENEAU
Alongside D. Dubreuilh and P. Barret at an “Humour Noir” award ceremony, 1959.
Photograph, vintage silver print, captioned (dated label) and stamped on the back.
13 x 18 cm.
Note: This photograph, taken in 1959, shows Raymond Queneau alongside Dominique Dubreuilh and Paul Barret at a “Black Humor” award ceremony. A writer, poet, and co-founder of Oulipo, Queneau occupies a major place in 20th-century French literature thanks to his penchant for linguistic experimentation, playfulness, and formal innovation. The Prix de l’Humour Noir, created to honor works marked by irony, the absurd, or satire, is fully in keeping with the intellectual world of which Queneau was one of the most brilliant representatives. This vintage print serves as a valuable testament to postwar Parisian literary life and to the presence of the author of *Zazie in the Metro* at the major cultural events of his time.
