DINOSAURS, PREHISTORIC MONSTERS, ALIENS... - Lot 184
DINOSAURS, PREHISTORIC MONSTERS, ALIENS... 4 films: "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" by Eugène Lourié assisted by Ray Harryhausen (1953), "Atragon" by Ishiro Honda (1965), "Repticulus" by Sidney W. Pink (1962) and "Invasion Planète X" by Ishiro Honda (1965). 4 photos, vintage silver prints, credits under some images, press clipping to one back, stamps (including date to one) to two and annotated to all. From 19 x 25 cm to 20.4 x 25.8 cm. Photos handled in particular: white edges partially cut off + minor retouching on one photo and staple holes on the edges of another. Note: Set of four photographs devoted to iconic fantasy and science fiction films of the 1950s-1960s: Eugène Lourié's The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms with special effects by Ray Harryhausen (1953), Sidney W. Pink's Reptilicus (1961), as well as two Japanese productions by Ishirō Honda, Atragon (Kaitei Gunkan, 1963) and Invasion Planet X (Kaijū Daisensō / Invasion of Astro-Monster, 1965). These works belong to the golden age of monster and science fiction cinema, marked by giant creatures, hand-crafted special effects and post-war atomic anxieties. Ray Harryhausen remains one of the absolute masters of stop-motion animation, while Ishirō Honda plays a fundamental role in the development of Japanese kaijū eiga cinema alongside Toho Studios and the Godzilla cycle. Period promotional photographs related to these fantasy and science-fiction productions are particularly sought-after by collectors specializing in genre cinema and classic special effects.
