Note: Set of six photographs dedicated to Superman contra la invasión de los marcianos (Superman versus the Martian Invasion), a Mexican film directed by Alfredo B. Crevenna in 1967, starring the famous masked wrestler Santo. A mythical figure in Mexican popular culture, Santo - "El Santo, el Enmascarado de Plata" - became a legend in the 1950s thanks to his lucha libre fights and his many films mixing fantasy, science fiction, horror and adventure. This feature-length film follows in the tradition of popular Mexican genre cinema, combining alien invasion, masked heroes and B-movie aesthetics that have gained a cult following among fantasy fans.
Period promotional photographs bearing release stamps and annotations are sought-after testimonials to Latin American fantasy cinema of the 1960s, and to the world of Santo, now considered a major icon of Mexican popular culture.
