NOSFERATU, PHANTOM OF THE NIGHT - Illustrator Topor and Brun - Lot 251
NOSFERATU, PHANTOM OF THE NIGHT - Illustrator Topor and Bruno Ganz, scene from Werner Herzog’s 1979 film. Photograph, vintage RC print, annotated on the back. 20.3 x 25.4 cm. Note: Photograph depicting illustrator Roland Topor and Bruno Ganz in a scene from *Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht* (*Nosferatu, Phantom of the Night*), a film directed by Werner Herzog in 1979. A loose remake of F.W. Murnau’s Expressionist masterpiece, the film stands as one of the great works of late 20th-century European fantasy cinema. Bruno Ganz plays Jonathan Harker opposite Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula, while Roland Topor—writer, illustrator, and a leading figure in the contemporary surrealist movement—appears in a cameo role that has become rare and highly sought after. Period RC photographs related to Werner Herzog’s films are particularly prized by collectors of fantasy cinema and European auteur cinema. The annotations on the reverse side attest to the document’s professional circulation within press and distribution circles.
