VIVIEN LEIGH AND CLARK GABLE - Lot 5
VIVIEN LEIGH AND CLARK GABLE "You Should Be Kissed and Often…," a line from Victor Fleming's film "Gone With the Wind," 1939. Photograph, later silver print (re-release from the film in the 1950s), unmarked on the back. 25.5 x 20.6 cm, including white borders. Tip of one corner has been repaired. Note: Directed by Victor Fleming in 1939 and based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell, *Gone With the Wind* stars Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. Their relationship—marked by attraction, pride, and conflict—forms the romantic heart of this epic set during the Civil War and Reconstruction. In this scene, Rhett refuses to kiss Scarlett while delivering the famous line: “You should be kissed—and often—and by someone who knows how.” The face-to-face scene between the two actors has become one of the most iconic images in Hollywood cinema. The film won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Vivien Leigh.
