ROMY SCHNEIDER AND FABIO TESTI - Lot 43
ROMY SCHNEIDER AND FABIO TESTI Heads pasted onto photos (American stills) taken during the filming of Andrzej Zulawski’s movie *L'Important c'est d'aimer*, 1975. Photograph, vintage color print, annotated on the back. 23.8 x 30 cm. Staple holes in the corners. Note: The close-up faces of Romy Schneider and Fabio Testi rest on a collage of film photographs—American stills—a composition that evokes the central role of the image in *L’Important c’est d’aimer*. In the film, Romy Schneider plays Nadine Chevalier, a troubled actress forced to accept degrading roles, while Fabio Testi plays Servais Mont, a photojournalist who falls in love with her and tries to revive her career. Adapted from Christopher Frank’s novel *La Nuit américaine*, Andrzej Żuławski’s film—shot in 1974 and released in 1975—depicts a dark and destructive passion. This performance earned Romy Schneider her first César Award for Best Actress, presented in 1976.
