ANNA KARINA AND JEAN-LUC GODARD - Lot 60
ANNA KARINA AND JEAN-LUC GODARD Off-set (Brigitte Bardot on the cover of a magazine on the dresser…), 1960. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 24 x 18.2 cm. Note: Anna Karina and Jean-Luc Godard are captured off-set, in an interior where a magazine featuring Brigitte Bardot on the cover is visible on the dresser. The year 1960 marked the beginning of their artistic collaboration: Godard cast Karina in her first major role in *Le Petit Soldat*, filmed that year but banned by censors until 1963. The actress went on to become the iconic star of his films, notably in *Une femme est une femme*, *Vivre sa vie*, *Bande à part*, *Alphaville*, and *Pierrot le Fou*. Their collaboration, inextricably linked to the French New Wave, was complemented by a personal relationship: they married in 1961. Bardot’s presence is a particularly evocative detail, as Godard went on to direct her three years later in *Le Mépris*.
