JULIETTE MAYNIEL AND JEAN KOSTA - Lot 64
JULIETTE MAYNIEL AND JEAN KOSTA "Un couple," a film by Jean-Pierre Mocky, screenplay by Raymond Queneau, 1960. Vintage lithographic poster, designed by Jan Mara, printed by Cinemato – Paris. 160 x 120 cm. Folded poster. Note: In *Un couple*, a drama directed by Jean-Pierre Mocky in 1960, Juliette Mayniel and Jean Kosta play Anne and Pierre Chenard, who have been married for three years and are facing the slow breakdown of their relationship. Here, Mocky subverts the conventions of the romantic comedy to offer an unflinching observation of the waning of desire, the frustrations, and the temptations that undermine married life. Language plays an essential role in this emotionally charged, closed-door drama: the dialogue was written by Raymond Queneau, whose style lends the film its verbal precision and uniqueness. Juliette Mayniel, a leading figure in young French cinema and the heroine of Claude Chabrol’s *Les Cousins* the previous year, forms a couple with Jean Kosta that epitomizes the romantic disillusionment explored by French cinema at the turn of the 1960s.
