NATHALIE BAYE AND JOHNNY HALLIDAY - Lot 66
NATHALIE BAYE AND JOHNNY HALLIDAY During the filming of Jean-Luc Godard’s movie “Détective,” 1985. Photo, vintage RC print, annotated on the back. 24 x 17.7 cm. Note: Then partners in life, Nathalie Baye and Johnny Hallyday were brought together on screen by Jean-Luc Godard in *Détective*, filmed in 1984 and presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1985. Set in the labyrinthine surroundings of a grand Parisian hotel, several storylines—involving desire, money, and crime—intersect around a mysterious investigation. Nathalie Baye plays Françoise Chenal, the debt-ridden wife of an impresario portrayed by Claude Brasseur, while Johnny Hallyday plays Jim Fox Warner, a boxer accompanied by his entourage. Godard thus subverts the conventions of film noir and offers the singer an unexpected role, marked by restraint and melancholy. The film marks Nathalie Baye’s second collaboration with Godard following *Sauve qui peut (la vie)*.
