SIMONE SIGNORET AND YVES MONTAND - Lot 78
SIMONE SIGNORET AND YVES MONTAND During the filming of Henri-Georges Clouzot’s movie “The Wages of Fear,” 1953. Photo, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 24 x 18.2 cm, including white borders. Note: Simone Signoret visited Yves Montand during the filming of Henri-Georges Clouzot’s *Le Salaire de la peur*, which began in the Camargue in 1951 and was completed in 1952. The actress does not appear in the film, contrary to what a first glance at the photograph might suggest. In the film, Montand plays Mario, a penniless adventurer hired along with three other men to transport two trucks loaded with nitroglycerin along the perilous roads of an imaginary Central American country. Signoret had accompanied her husband to the Camargue before having to return to Paris to fulfill her commitment to *Casque d’or*. She would later work with Clouzot on *Les Diaboliques* in 1955. Released in 1953, *Le Salaire de la peur* won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Bear in Berlin that same year.
