VIVIEN LEIGH AND MARLON BRANDO - Lot 85
VIVIEN LEIGH AND MARLON BRANDO "A Streetcar Named Desire," a film by Elia Kazan based on the play by Tennessee Williams, 1951. Vintage promotional brochure, 8 illustrated pages (photos from the film, posters, press photos, etc.). 31.5 x 23.4 cm. Corners worn at the bottom of the pages. Note: The now-legendary showdown between Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando in *A Streetcar Named Desire*, directed by Elia Kazan in 1951 and based on the play by Tennessee Williams. Vivien Leigh plays Blanche DuBois, a fragile woman who has taken refuge in New Orleans with her sister Stella, while Marlon Brando plays Stanley Kowalski, her brutal and impulsive brother-in-law. Their confrontation gradually shatters the illusions behind which Blanche hides her past. Brando reprised the role he had created on Broadway in 1947 under Kazan’s direction; his physical and naturalistic performance helped to profoundly renew American film acting. Vivien Leigh, for her part, won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Blanche.
