MARILYN MONROE AND TOM EWELL - Lot 92
MARILYN MONROE AND TOM EWELL Scenes from Billy Wilder's film "Seven Year Itch," 1955. 2 photos, vintage silver gelatin prints, production stamp on the back of one and annotations on both. 17.3 x 23.5 cm & 22.7 x 18.3 cm. White edges trimmed. Note: In *The Seven Year Itch*, a 1955 comedy directed by Billy Wilder and based on the play by George Axelrod, Tom Ewell plays Richard Sherman, a New York publisher left alone in Manhattan while his wife and son are on vacation. The arrival of an alluring neighbor, simply referred to as “The Girl” and played by Marilyn Monroe, fuels his fantasies as much as his guilty conscience. Tom Ewell reprises the role he had created on Broadway in 1952. The film features one of the most famous scenes in cinema history: Marilyn Monroe’s white dress billowing up as air rushes out of a subway vent. This image played a lasting role in making the actress an icon of popular culture.
