GERARD PHILIPE AND MICHEL FRANCOIS - Lot 99
GERARD PHILIPE AND MICHEL FRANCOIS During the filming of Claude Autant-Lara’s movie “Le Diable au corps,” 1947. Photograph, silver print on vintage card stock, unmarked on the back. 20 x 29.5 cm. Note: In *Le Diable au corps*, directed by Claude Autant-Lara in 1947 and based on the novel by Raymond Radiguet, Gérard Philipe plays François Jaubert, a high school student who, during World War I, has a passionate affair with Marthe, a young nurse engaged to a soldier who has gone to the front, played by Micheline Presle. Michel François plays the supporting role of René. Adapted by Jean Aurenche, Pierre Bost, and Claude Autant-Lara, the film sparked heated controversy upon its release due to its depiction—without moral judgment—of an adulterous love affair made possible by the war. Its success established Gérard Philipe and Micheline Presle as two major figures in postwar French cinema. Some signs of handling.
