CATHY O'DONNELL AND FARLEY GRANGER - Lot 103
CATHY O'DONNELL AND FARLEY GRANGER During the filming of Nicholas Ray's RKO film noir "They Live by Night" (1948). Vintage U.S. promotional photo (lobby card). 28 x 35.5 cm. Signs of handling on the edges and one corner. Note: In *They Live by Night* (Les Amants de la nuit), Nicholas Ray’s directorial debut, Farley Granger plays Bowie, a young escaped convict who dreams of proving his innocence and starting a new life. He meets Keechie, played by Cathy O’Donnell, with whom he discovers love and the hope of a normal life. Caught by his former accomplices after another robbery, Bowie drags the young woman into a hopeless escape. Adapted from Edward Anderson’s novel *Thieves Like Us*, the film blends the realism of film noir with a tragic love story, foreshadowing many subsequent tales of lovers on the run. Filmed in 1947, it was released in 1948 but remained on hold for a long time before its U.S. release in 1949.
