MARILYN MONROE AND DON MURRAY - Lot 114
MARILYN MONROE AND DON MURRAY During the filming of Joshua Logan’s movie “Bus Stop,” 1956. Photograph, vintage silver print, unmarked on the back. 25.4 x 20.5 cm. Note: “Bus Stop” marked Marilyn Monroe’s return to the screen after a year-long hiatus and her training at the Actors Studio in New York. Wanting to move away from the glamorous blonde roles Hollywood had typecast her in, she chose the more complex character of Cherie, a disillusioned cabaret singer dreaming of leaving for Hollywood. Don Murray, in his film debut, plays Bo Decker, a naive yet domineering young cowboy who falls in love with her at a rodeo. Adapted by George Axelrod from William Inge’s play, the film allowed Monroe to showcase a more dramatic side and earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Don Murray’s performance also earned him an Oscar nomination.
