CHANTAL GOYA AND JEAN-PIERRE LEAUD - Lot 116
CHANTAL GOYA AND JEAN-PIERRE LEAUD During the filming of Jean-Luc Godard’s movie “Masculin Féminin,” 1966. Photo, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 17.2 x 23.3 cm. Note: In *Masculin Féminin*, Jean-Pierre Léaud plays Paul, a young man who has returned from military service, is politically engaged, and feels disoriented by consumer society. He falls in love with Madeleine, played by Chantal Goya, a young singer more concerned with her career in pop music. Godard draws freely from two short stories by Maupassant, *La Femme de Paul* and *Le Signe*, to craft a fragmented exploration of Parisian youth, their romantic relationships, aspirations, and political contradictions. The film is famous for the phrase describing its protagonists as “the children of Marx and Coca-Cola.” Chantal Goya, then a yé-yé singer before becoming the performer for young audiences that we know today, plays a character close to her own media image.
