CLAUDIA CARDINALE AND ALAIN DELON - Lot 118
CLAUDIA CARDINALE AND ALAIN DELON During the filming of Mark Robson’s movie “Lost Command” (Les centurions), 1966. Photo, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 23.2 x 18 cm. Note: Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon reunited in *Lost Command* after starring together in Luchino Visconti’s *The Leopard* in 1963. Adapted from Jean Lartéguy’s novel *Les Centurions*, Mark Robson’s film follows a unit of French paratroopers from the defeat in Indochina through the Algerian War. Delon plays Captain Philippe Esclavier, an officer who becomes increasingly critical of the methods employed by his army. Cardinale plays Aïcha, a young Algerian woman involved in a relationship with him, but also the sister of Mahidi, a former officer turned independence fighter. Their relationship thus places the two characters at the heart of the conflict’s political and moral contradictions. This international production, filmed primarily in Spain, also features Anthony Quinn, George Segal, Michèle Morgan, and Maurice Ronet. A few traces of manipulation visible only when viewed against the light.
