ROMY SCHNEIDER AND MICHEL PICCOLI - Lot 120
ROMY SCHNEIDER AND MICHEL PICCOLI During the filming of Claude Sautet’s movie “Les Choses de la vie,” 1970. Photo, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. Note: Romy Schneider and Michel Piccoli’s first collaboration with Claude Sautet, *Les Choses de la vie* marked a defining moment in their careers. Piccoli plays Pierre Bérard, an architect who is the victim of a serious car accident. Lying by the side of the road in a semi-conscious state, he pieces together the fragments of his life: his relationship with Hélène, played by Schneider, his ex-wife Catherine, and his son. Adapted from Paul Guimard’s novel, the film explores death through everyday gestures, romantic hesitations, and regrets. It firmly establishes Romy Schneider among the great actresses of French cinema and marks the beginning of her major collaboration with Sautet. The music by Philippe Sarde and lyrics by Jean-Loup Dabadie gave rise to the famous “Chanson d’Hélène.”
