SHIRLEY MacLAINE AND FRANK SINATRA - Lot 123
SHIRLEY MacLAINE AND FRANK SINATRA Scene from Vincente Minnelli's film "Some Came Running," 1958. Photograph, vintage silver print, unmarked on the back. 20.5 x 25.2 cm, including white borders. Note: In *Some Came Running*, Frank Sinatra plays Dave Hirsh, a disillusioned former soldier and writer who returns to his hometown in Indiana after World War II. He is accompanied by Ginny Moorehead, a vulnerable young woman played by Shirley MacLaine, who loves him unreservedly despite his indifference. Dave himself is drawn to Gwen French, a literature professor played by Martha Hyer, while he befriends professional gambler Bama Dillert, portrayed by Dean Martin. Adapted from James Jones’s epic novel, the melodrama pits provincial respectability against those considered outsiders. The role of Ginny allows MacLaine to blend naivety, exuberance, and tragic emotion; her performance earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
