MADELEINE SOLOGNE AND JEAN MARAIS - Lot 131
MADELEINE SOLOGNE AND JEAN MARAIS During the filming of Jean Delannoy’s movie “L’Eternel retour,” screenplay by Jean Cocteau, 1943. Photograph, silver print on vintage card stock, unmarked on the back. 30.2 x 23.7 cm, including margins. Note: Jean Cocteau transposes the medieval legend of Tristan and Iseult to contemporary France. Jean Marais and Madeleine Sologne play Patrice and Nathalie, two lovers doomed by family rivalries, jealousy, and a love potion. Directed by Jean Delannoy from a screenplay and dialogue by Cocteau, *L’Éternel Retour* also owes its atmosphere to Roger Hubert’s cinematography, Georges Wakhévitch’s set design, and Georges Annenkov’s costumes. The film cemented the image of its two leads as romantic and tragic lovers.
