CATHERINE DENEUVE AND MARCELLO MASTROIANNI - Lot 143
CATHERINE DENEUVE AND MARCELLO MASTROIANNI Scene from Marco Ferreri’s film “Liza,” 1972. Photograph, vintage silver print, unmarked on the back. 12.7 x 17.6 cm. Note: Catherine Deneuve plays Liza, a young woman who leaves a yacht to join Giorgio, a solitary artist played by Marcello Mastroianni, on a Corsican island. Jealous of the affection he shows his dog, she gradually pushes the animal aside to take its place by his side, even mimicking its behavior and submission. Adapted from Ennio Flaiano’s short story “Melampus” by Marco Ferreri and Jean-Claude Carrière, the film transforms this relationship into a provocative fable about love, possession, and dependence. The costumes worn by Catherine Deneuve were designed by Yves Saint Laurent.
