GINGER ROGERS AND FRED ASTAIRE - Lot 144
GINGER ROGERS AND FRED ASTAIRE Scene from Mark Sandrich's musical film "Follow the Fleet," 1936. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 25.7 x 20.3 cm, including white borders. Pins holes in the corners. Note: In their fifth film together, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire play Sherry Martin and “Bake” Baker, former dance partners separated by Bake’s enlistment in the U.S. Navy. While on leave in San Francisco, the sailor reunites with Sherry—now a cabaret dancer—and tries to rekindle their relationship. The music and songs are by Irving Berlin. The film notably features “Let Yourself Go,” the only true solo dance number performed by Rogers in the duo’s ten films, as well as the famous final duet “Let’s Face the Music and Dance.” Their blend of comedy, romance, and choreographic virtuosity was a defining part of the golden age of Hollywood musicals.
