VIVIEN LEIGH AND MARLON BRANDO - Lot 150
VIVIEN LEIGH AND MARLON BRANDO Scene from Elia Kazan’s film *A Streetcar Named Desire*, based on the play by Tennessee Williams, 1951. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 20.5 x 25.3 cm. Note: Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando portray Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski, two characters who are polar opposites. Weakened by the loss of the family home and haunted by her past, Blanche moves to New Orleans to live with her sister Stella, the wife of the brutal and impulsive Stanley. Their clash, rooted in the conflict between Blanche’s illusions and Stanley’s violence, forms the heart of Tennessee Williams’s drama. Brando reprises the role he had created on Broadway under the direction of Elia Kazan, while Leigh brings to life a vulnerable and tragic Blanche. The film received twelve Oscar nominations and four awards, including the Oscar for Best Actress for Vivien Leigh. Pinhole holes along the edges and a tear on a white border.
