VERA MILES AND HENRY FONDA - Lot 158
VERA MILES AND HENRY FONDA During the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Wrong Man” (1956). Photo, vintage silver gelatin print, stamped (including production stamp) and annotated on the back. 25.3 x 20.6 cm, including white borders. Note: Henry Fonda plays Christopher Emmanuel “Manny” Balestrero, a musician at the Stork Club in New York, who is arrested after being mistaken for the perpetrator of several armed robberies. Vera Miles plays his wife Rose, whose mental state gradually deteriorates under the weight of the accusation and financial difficulties. The film is based on a real-life incident that occurred in 1953. Hitchcock adopts a deliberately understated, documentary-style approach and films on location at several sites connected to the case in order to accurately recreate the mechanics of the miscarriage of justice. This realistic approach sets *The Wrong Man* apart from his more overtly spectacular thrillers. A slightly bent corner and an ink stain on a white edge.
