AUDREY HEPBURN AND WILLIAM HOLDEN - Lot 180
AUDREY HEPBURN AND WILLIAM HOLDEN Close-up, from Billy Wilder’s film “Sabrina,” 1954. Photograph, later silver print (1965), credits below the image, blank back. 20.2 x 25.6 cm, including edges. Note: Audrey Hepburn plays Sabrina Fairchild, the daughter of the chauffeur for the powerful Larrabee family, who has been in love since childhood with David, the handsome heir played by William Holden. After a stay in Paris, Sabrina returns transformed into an elegant young woman and finally catches David’s attention, even though he is already engaged. Her older brother Linus, played by Humphrey Bogart, then sets out to dissuade Sabrina from pursuing him in order to safeguard an industrial merger, but finds himself, in turn, swept away by his own feelings. Billy Wilder thus crafts a romantic comedy centered on a love triangle, as well as the conflict between social classes, family interests, and individual desire. The film is adapted from the play *Sabrina Fair* by Samuel A. Taylor.
