GRACE KELLY AND WILLIAM HOLDEN - Lot 181
GRACE KELLY AND WILLIAM HOLDEN Close-up, from Mark Robson’s film *The Bridges at Toko-Ri*, 1954. Photograph, vintage silver print, credits below the image, blank reverse. 20.7 x 25.8 cm including edges. One thumbtack hole in each white corner. Note: Grace Kelly and William Holden play Nancy and Harry Brubaker, a couple separated by the Korean War. A lawyer in civilian life and a former World War II pilot, Harry is called back into service for a dangerous aerial mission against the strategic bridges at Toko-Ri. While on leave in Japan, Nancy reunites with her husband and gradually comes to understand the gravity of the mission that awaits him. Adapted from a story by James A. Michener, Mark Robson’s film combines aerial spectacle with intimate drama, focusing on the impact of war on soldiers and their families. Produced and filmed in 1954, it was released in the United States in early 1955.
