INGRID BERGMAN AND YVES MONTAND - Lot 187
INGRID BERGMAN AND YVES MONTAND Scene from Anatole Litvak’s film “Do You Like Brahms?” based on the novel by Françoise Sagan; Bergman is dressed by Yves Saint Laurent (Dior era), 1961. Photograph, vintage silver print, annotated (with numbers) on the back. 15.8 x 22.2 cm. Signs of handling on some edges and a black spot (outside the frame). Note: Ingrid Bergman plays Paula Tessier, a Parisian interior designer in her forties who has been in an unsatisfying affair for five years with Roger Demarest, a fickle businessman played by Yves Montand. The couple’s precarious balance is disrupted when Philip, a young lawyer played by Anthony Perkins, falls in love with Paula. Adapted by Samuel A. Taylor from the novel by Françoise Sagan, the film explores loneliness, the age gap, and the choice between a new passion and a relationship that has become routine. Bergman’s outfits are credited to Christian Dior. Yves Saint Laurent had served as the house’s creative director from 1957 to 1960, a period during which he had also named one of his designs *Aimez-vous Brahms…*.
