INGRID BERGMAN AND ANTHONY PERKINS - Lot 188
INGRID BERGMAN AND ANTHONY PERKINS Scene from Anatole Litvak’s film *Do You Like Brahms?*, based on the novel by Françoise Sagan; Bergman is dressed by Yves Saint Laurent (during his time at Dior), 1961. Photo, vintage silver print, unmarked on the back. 19.7 x 25.3 cm. Some signs of handling, particularly thumbtack holes in one corner. Note: Ingrid Bergman plays Paula Tessier, a Parisian interior designer in her forties, who has been abandoned by her partner Roger, played by Yves Montand. Anthony Perkins plays Philip Van der Besh, a twenty-five-year-old lawyer who falls in love with her and offers her the prospect of a more passionate relationship. However, their age difference forces Paula to confront society’s judgment and her own hesitations. Adapted from the novel by Françoise Sagan, the film brings to the screen a melancholic story about desire, the passing of time, and the fear of loneliness. Ingrid Bergman’s costumes are credited to Christian Dior, where Yves Saint Laurent served as creative director from 1957 to 1960.
