PETER O'TOOLE AND OMAR SHARIF - Lot 192
PETER O'TOOLE AND OMAR SHARIF Scene from David Lean’s film "Lawrence of Arabia," 1962. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 25.8 x 20.3 cm. Note: Peter O’Toole plays the British officer T. E. Lawrence, sent to work with the Arab forces rebelling against the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Omar Sharif plays Sharif Ali, who is initially wary of this stranger before becoming his ally and comrade-in-arms. Their relationship accompanies Lawrence’s rise, from his journey across the desert to the capture of Aqaba, while revealing his internal conflicts between his commitment to the Arabs, his personal quest, and his role as an agent of British imperialism. Omar Sharif’s spectacular appearance through a mirage is one of the film’s most famous scenes. This epic by David Lean won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
