STEPHANE AUDRAN AND BERNADETTE LAFFONT - Lot 221
STEPHANE AUDRAN AND BERNADETTE LAFFONT during the filming of Claude Chabrol’s movie “Les bonnes femmes,” 1960. Photo, vintage silver print, credits in the image, blank back. 18 x 24 cm. Note: Stéphane Audran plays Ginette and Bernadette Lafont plays Jane, two of the four saleswomen at a Parisian appliance store whose daily lives Claude Chabrol follows, along with Jacqueline and Rita. Jane, lively and sassy, seeks immediate pleasures, while Ginette secretly leads a double life as a singer in a cabaret. Amid workplace boredom, nights out, and romantic aspirations, the four young women dream of escaping their monotonous existence. But behind the story’s apparent lightheartedness, a disturbing tone gradually sets in. Made at the dawn of the French New Wave and co-written with Paul Gégauff, the film offers a portrait of young Parisian women that is both perceptive and ruthless.
