JEANNE MOREAU AND JEAN-MARC BORY - Lot 238
JEANNE MOREAU AND JEAN-MARC BORY Scene from Louis Malle’s film, 1958. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped and annotated on the back. 12.8 x 17.8 cm. Note: Jeanne Moreau plays Jeanne Tournier, a bourgeois woman from Dijon who is bored with her husband and has a passionless affair with a Parisian polo player. A car breakdown leads to her meeting Bernard Dubois-Lambert, a young archaeologist played by Jean-Marc Bory. Invited to spend the night at the family home, he finds Jeanne in the park: their walk turns into a night of love, then into a late-morning escape. Following *Elevator to the Gallows*, Louis Malle gave Jeanne Moreau one of her defining roles. Inspired by Dominique Vivant Denon’s *Point de lendemain*, the film celebrates—with a freedom that was daring for its time—female desire and the breaking away from bourgeois conventions.
