ADRIENNE SERVANTIE AND JEAN-PIERRE ZOLA - Lot 82
ADRIENNE SERVANTIE AND JEAN-PIERRE ZOLA Scene from Jacques Tati's film "Mon oncle," 1958. German photograph, vintage silver gelatin print on acrtoline paper, color-enhanced; credits in the image; stamped and annotated on the reverse. 23.3 x 29.6 cm. Note: Adrienne Servantie and Jean-Pierre Zola play Madame and Monsieur Arpel, Monsieur Hulot’s sister and brother-in-law. Living in an ultra-modern villa, the Arpels place their trust in mechanical comfort, order, and social success. Their geometric, sterile world contrasts with the more spontaneous one of Hulot, to whom their son Gérard is deeply attached. Through this bourgeois couple, Jacques Tati crafts a tender satire of France during the “Trente Glorieuses,” a period fascinated by household appliances, automobiles, and new consumption patterns. The director’s first feature-length film in color, *Mon Oncle* won the 1959 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
