Christophe Fratin, cigar holder

The young Fratin took drawing lessons where he won a few prizes. Later, he declared that he had been a pupil of Carle Vernet and Géricault between 1821 and 1831, which is possible but apparently not absolutely true. In the years 1833 and 1934, Fratin made plaster casts of animals and exhibited them. He was immediately made a serious rival of Barye, and others imitated him, vainly trying to pick up a few crumbs of the glory of his great predecessor.
However, Fratin's success was to grow over the years, both in France, where he was commissioned by the public - in the Square Montrouge in Paris, there was once a monumental "Horse attacked by a lion" - and abroad: Austria, the United States, Germany, England. Read more on our website expertisez.com: Who was Christophe Fratin?
