Léon Haffner
Léon Haffner was born on December 4, 1881 in Paris into a middle-class family. After his secondary scientific studies, his choices were oriented towards drawing, to the great displeasure of his father who dreamed of taking over the family business of safes.
He also learns to play the clarinet in order to join a "pacifist" regiment, and for three years he exercises his talents. This passion will also allow him to meet his wife when he will be solo clarinet of the Sorbonne Orchestra.
A rich and varied career followed. He illustrated a large number of magazines, Le Bulletin, Le journal de la marine, Le Yatch Club de France, Le Grand Larousse ... His illustrations will also delight the passionate readers of the novelist of the sea Paul Chack. Throughout his life, Haffner collaborated with numerous magazines, the French Maritime League, and numerous associations. His efficiency and hard work earned him many awards, including his appointment as official painter of the Navy in 1918.
