Shepard Fairey 5 sérigraphs in auction
Always on the edge of illegality, Shepard Fairey is a "borderline" American artist. His work is known worldwide thanks to the poster he created in 2008 to support Barack Obama's presidential campaign. "Hope" has since been adapted in a thousand different ways and has been featured in a number of tabloids. A new, highly controversial version, entitled "Yes we scan", was reused in the summer of 2013, and features Barack Obama wearing a headset. And points the finger at the electronic surveillance strategy of the United States. Shepard Fairey immediately approved this way of remixing his work.
Shepard Fairey lives constantly at the limits of legality. Several times caught by the law, he had to justify himself in court more than a dozen times. Sometimes because of graffiti on the walls, sometimes for the use of an image without rights... Like that of Barack Obama, for which the photographer was not credited. His arrests do not prevent Shepard Fairey from remaining popular in the United States. During some of his setbacks with justice, his exhibitions in various museums double their attendance.
