Masters of the Gaze: French Filmmakers as Seen by Set Photographers.

This collection pays tribute to the directors who shaped French cinema through rare period photographs from film sets and portraits (behind the camera, interacting with actors and actresses...).

The selection of filmmakers ranges from pre-war pioneers (Abel Gance, Jean Renoir…) through the New Wave (Truffaut, Godard…) to a more contemporary period,

in all their diversity of genre and style.

This collection also highlights the perspective of (set) photographers who capture the birth and making of films, creating a dialogue between two forms of visual creation.
