ANITA EKBERG AND MARCELLO MASTROIANNI - Lot 4
ANITA EKBERG AND MARCELLO MASTROIANNI The legendary kiss in the Trevi Fountain in Rome… during the filming of Federico Fellini’s movie “La Dolce Vita,” 1960. Photo, vintage silver print, annotated (number in pencil) on the back. 18 x 23.8 cm. Note: Directed by Federico Fellini in 1960, *La Dolce Vita* follows Marcello Rubini, a society journalist played by Marcello Mastroianni, through the lavish and disillusioned nights of Rome. Anita Ekberg plays Sylvia, a Hollywood star whose freedom and sensuality fascinate Marcello. During a nighttime stroll, she steps into the Trevi Fountain and invites him to join her. Their face-to-face moment in the water—frozen at the instant when they seem on the verge of kissing—has become one of the most famous scenes in the history of cinema. A symbol of desire as dazzling as it is elusive, this sequence helped make Anita Ekberg an international icon. The film won the Palme d’Or at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival.
