SERGEÏ LOBOVIKOV (1870-1941) - Lot 223
SERGEÏ LOBOVIKOV (1870-1941) Publisher's boards, red cloth spine, cover illustrated with a black and white photograph, title in gilt Cyrillic characters. Text in Russian. Book devoted to the work of Russian photographer Sergei Lobovikov, a major figure of pictorialism and social realism in Russia at the turn of the XXᵉ century. Numerous black-and-white reproductions of rural scenes, portraits and documentary compositions. Good condition. Note: Sergei Lobovikov is recognized as one of the key exponents of pre-revolutionary Russian photography. His work, centered on peasantry and provincial life, is part of a humanist, documentary approach that is now being re-evaluated in the history of European photography. Monographs devoted to Russian photographers of the early XXᵉ century enjoy a specialized but active market, particularly among collectors of works of historical photography. Iconographic interest, the quality of reproductions and the relative scarcity of publications outside Russia sustain demand.
