PORTRAIT OF A SEATED MAN, circa 1850 - Lot 213
PORTRAIT OF A SEATED MAN, circa 1850 Daguerreotype (framed) Dimensions: 15 x 12.5 cm Freckles Note: Portrait of a seated man produced using the daguerreotype process, the first photographic technique commercialized from 1839. This image dates back to the early days of photography, when portraiture became one of the medium's main uses. The daguerreotype, characterized by a single image on a metal plate, offered great detail and exceptional rendering quality, while at the same time imposing a stable pose on the model due to the long exposure times of the time. Daguerreotypes, often preserved in their original frames, are of major historical and heritage interest today, bearing witness to the early development of photography in the 19th century.
