Gilles DELAVAUD (ed.), Alain BERGALA (texts), Raymond DEPARD - Lot 190
Gilles DELAVAUD (ed.), Alain BERGALA (texts), Raymond DEPARDON (photos), Écrit sur l'image. Raymond Depardon: New York Correspondence. Alain Bergala: The Photographer’s Absences. Éditions de l’Etoile, 1981 Note: The first volume in the “Écrit sur l’image” series, this book brings together Raymond Depardon’s *New York Correspondence* and Alain Bergala’s essay *The Photographer’s Absences*. It is edited by Gilles Delavaud. *New York Correspondence* brings together the photographs and texts that Raymond Depardon sent daily to the newspaper *Libération* between July 2 and August 7, 1981, during a stay in New York. Each day, an image accompanied by a short text forms a personal chronicle of the city, straddling the line between photojournalism, a personal diary, and a reflection on the act of photography. The book is complemented by Alain Bergala’s essay, *Les absences du photographe* (The Photographer’s Absences), a now-classic analysis of the relationship between the image, its creator, and what eludes the photographic gaze. Reissued in 2006 under the title *New York*, this collection is now considered a major work in Raymond Depardon’s bibliography. 96 pp Good condition
